Questions UK riders ask
-
Yes, it really is. Most riders come for the scenery, the challenge and the feeling of crossing the finish line, not to win. You ride at your own pace, stop whenever you like, and plenty of people take it steady from start to finish.
-
Not at all. Our team speaks English and all race information, briefings and rider support are available in English. Riders come from all over the world, so you'll be in good company. A few words of the local language will always earn you a smile in a café, but you won't need them to get round.
-
No, riding at night is completely optional. There's plenty of time to ride in daylight and still finish comfortably. Some riders like to keep going after dark to cover more ground, but that's entirely your call.
-
You're never completely on your own. Depending on the distance you choose, your route passes through one or more base camps, where you can have a hot meal, take a shower, get some rest on a camp bed, charge your devices and see a doctor if you need one. Friends and family are welcome to meet you there and help out too. On some events the route loops back through the same base camp, so your kit is never far away. Wherever you are on the course, our team is tracking you 24 hours a day and is ready to help if anything goes wrong.
-
Riding on the road always carries some risk, but safety shapes everything we do. Our routes are carefully designed to use quiet roads wherever possible, and every rider starts with the same mandatory kit list so you're properly prepared. You'll also carry a GPS tracker, and our team keeps an eye on every rider 24 hours a day. If anything happens, you can call or text them directly and they'll be there to help.
-
Wherever suits you best. You can rest at our base camps, book a hotel or Airbnb, stay at a campsite, or wild camp in places where local rules allow it. Some riders plan every night in advance, others decide on the day depending on how their legs feel. If it's your first ultra, we'd suggest booking your first night ahead so you've got one less thing to think about.
-
Your entry covers far more than a start number. You'll get a rider pack, a carefully planned route sent to you in advance, a GPS tracker, refreshments, official photos, and a 24 hour team keeping an eye on you. We'll also carry your bag from the start to the finish, and every finisher takes home a t-shirt and our famous wooden trophy.
